Noodle Ball

Noodle Ball is our new favorite game and quite a fun way to spend P.E.  Borrowed from VBS, Noodle Ball is like hockey with noodles and beach balls.  Exhausting, hillarious, and tons of fun.

We studied the earliest nomads today and did "cave drawings".

We also enjoyed a game of "telling time bingo".

Overall, it was a great first week of school.  The kids did all of their work with (almost) all great attitudes.  We focused a lot on math and reading because everyone seems to enjoy it.  I need to make sure we focus equally on writing (more difficult because not everyone enjoys it).  One thing I need to work on is an organization system that will enable them to see what they need to accomplish during the day so that they will know how much work is left.  Today the boys were NOT happy with me when they had to practice some spelling words after they thought they were already done for the day.   We are learning together...and I am thankful.

May Academy is Now Open

Yesterday, July 27, 2011, was the first day of May Academy.  We are excited about our new adventure.  Our first day highlights included a pep talk/opening ceremony from our Principal, walking out the backdoor & in the front door of May Academy, going on a treasure hunt for our math manipulatives (yes, math is that exciting in our house), and going on an archaeological dig at a local park.  It was a great day of learning together.  One funny thing: T kept saying to me, "Teacher, you are even nicer than my mommy."  Hmmm...not sure how to take that.

I still feel very insecure about how and what to teach the children.  I pray that the Lord will lead our days this year, guiding our steps, and growing us to learn what we need to learn while helping us grow closer to Him.
I just love that we will be together!

Who are the Homeschool Sisters?

We are two first year homeschooling moms.  Since we live in different cities, we wanted a way to share with each other how our adventure is progressing through the year.  Danielle is homeschooling  three children, ages 8, 6, and 4.  Scarlett is homeschooling her 4 year old daughter and trying to keep up with her energetic 20 month old son.  Scarlett is also in the process of adopting a third child from Ethiopia.  Both of us love Jesus, enjoy decorating, and have a host of other interests, so sometimes something other than homeschooling may pop up.
