We had two birthday celebrations in one weekend. Family came into town, so we had T's 7th birthday on Saturday & E's 5th on Sunday. It was a ton of fun.
T had a Narnia party. The kids had to crawl through a wardrobe to enter Narnia. The table was decorated to look like winter & laid out with plenty of yummies (aka "Turkish Delight"). Then Father Christmas came and presented the boys with foam swords. Then, let the chaos begin... The boys battled in the backyard. It became clear that the battle was raging out of hand, so "Father Christmas" came to the rescue with some old summer camp games to keep the active boys busy; the sock game was the favorite. Later the boys battled the enemy (pinata) with a wooden sword & collected their loot. High King T and his brave knights had saved the day.
E had a Little House on the Prairie party. I sewed bonnets for all the girls in the days leading up to the party & each girl selected a bonnet as they entered the party. The girls all looked so precious. We had a much calmer party than the one the day before as the girls played drop the clothespin in the jar, did a quilting craft & made bread and butter. It was a sweet time.
We read Little House in the Big Woods just before E's "Little House" birthday party. All of us (including me) learned so much about pioneer life. We completed our first lapbook, Grant did comprehension/writing excercises from a Logos book we borrowed, & we made bread & butter.
We began our study of the Human Body by studying digestion...at T's request. We had fun making a model of the digestive system out of yarn & seeing how long it really is. Amazing!
Let's see...what else. Our cousin spent several days with us, so there was a lot of fun girly giggling for E. Oh, and my favorite day of homeschool so far, we went on a field trip to the Mayborn Museum in Waco. We spent the ENTIRE day engaged in hands-on exhibits at the museum. I kept telling the kids it was time to go & they kept begging to "just learn about one more thing". Definitely the best thing about homeschooling so far is getting the kids excited about learning. I'm hoping the other homeschool sister will post pics from the field trip. :)
This weekend we took a spontaneous trip to Aggieland. Our little Aggie Fans never realized they are in such great company...they have never seen so much maroon. We enjoyed some Coppe Bridge & Laynes, watched the corp march in, and showed the kids around campus. The boys loved seeing the corp.
It was all well and good until T "died of thirst".
Tomorrow is our first morning of Classical Conversations. Looking forward to new adventures!
